W Stephen Johnston   Home City: Kingston, Ontario Date of Crash: October 3, 1984 On October 3, 1984, at approximately 10:20 p.m., an 18-year-old Kingston township youth, W. Stephen Johnston, was struck by a car just a few miles from his home. He was cycling home after his last music class at Queen's University. The car was driven by David W. Gourdier, 25, of Amherstview, Ontario. At approximately 11:30 p.m., Gourdier was taken to O.P.P. Headquarters where he was given a Breathalyzer test. The results were 180 milligrams of alcohol in the first reading and 180 in the second reading. Steve's mother composed the following message with a brief overview of his life. Read Memorial Message

Steve, a Queen's University music freshman played the piano, guitar, tuba, harmonica, recorder, violin. He played the guitar and sang at Our Lady of Lourdes Folk Masses Sunday morning and St. Mary's Cathedral Sunday evening. During his final high school year, he led the Folk Group for masses, taught guitar and represented Kingston at the Ontario Music Leadership Camp. Steve enjoyed playing sports: Boxing, Running, Softball, Lacrosse, Hockey (from age 5) and was on many traveling and all-star teams. His most memorable moment was when he scored a goal during the winning game for the Bantam Ontario Lacrosse Championship.
