Karen Ruby Gordon

Home City: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Age: 27
Date of Crash: May 19, 1992

On a beautiful evening, at 7:15 PM on May 19, 1992, a drunk driver came barrelling through a red light on the corner of Dunbrack and Maine, he didn't apply his brakes. He was impaired - he killed Karen. He had five previous impaired convictions, plus a lengthy criminal record. On February 19, 1993 he was sentenced to six years in prison and a 20-year driving suspension.

The following message was provided by Karen's mother, Charlotte Gordon.

Karen was the eldest of our two daughters, full of fun and devoted to her family, especially her sister Kim. She was employed with MT&T, but more than a career, she wanted children. Karen loved music and singing with the Scotianaires; she was killed on the way to chorus practice by a repeat offender. Life would be so different if she were here; instead we have broken hearts and life without her.
