Joline Melissa Stoddard

Age: 17
Date of Crash: June 12, 1998
Home City: Sydney, NS

At the age of 17, she had everything to live for, including her close and loving family. She left behind her sister, Joni, half-sister, Sandie Lee, half-brother, Cody, and her 18 month old nice, Caileigh, as well as a large extended family of many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Grandmothers and Grandfathers. In her short time with us, she experienced many adventures that most people do not experience in their lifetime. No matter who you were, young or old, rich or poor; Joline always saw the better side of people. This was confirmed by the presence of people at her wake and funeral.

Local media coverage brought the dangers of drinking and driving more real in the minds of the young people in our area. Her passing made a lasting impression on her cousins and close friends.

Since she has been gone, her family has grown to include a brother-in-law, Derek, and two more nieces, Courtney and Jessica, but their "Auntie" is still included and remembered during holidays and family celebrations (along with her maternal grandfather who passed away on March 31, 1998).

A night like any other, or so it seemed,
We woke in the morning from all our dreams,
To find our world turned upside down,
And our heads spinning round and round.
Our Joline was gone out of our lives,
Too quick for us to even realize,
How much pain and loneliness would come
And how we would cope without our loved one.
But as the days and months turned into years
Our faith in God helps us with our tears,
Even though we miss you so every day,
In our hearts, Joline, you will always stay.
