Kenneth Gordon Gebers   Age: 36 Date of Crash: July 31, 1999 Home City: Didsbury, AB My husband left behind two young boys and a very loving family when he chose to get into a vehicle driven by a drunk driver. They were driving on Highway 2A from Carstairs AB, towards Didsbury AB at 11:30 am. The pick up truck he was in veered into the southbound lane and collided with a van. Ken died at the scene, a female friend died shortly after the collision. The driver received multiple injuries. The driver of the van was severely crippled. The trial was at Court of Queen’s Bench in Calgary. Tried by Judge and Jury of 7 men and 5 women lasted a week after 10 hours of deliberations. The driver was found GUILTY of 2 counts of Impaired Driving Causing Death and 1 count of Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm. He was sentenced to jail for 7 years, and also prohibited from driving for 10 years after his release. The 7 year term handed down equals the highest ever given in Alberta on a charge of Impaired Driving Causing Death. Read Memorial Message
