1. It’s a dynamic 3 screen all Canadian Multi-Media presentation that we bring to you! The high school presentation includes interviews with people who have lost a loved one as a result of impaired driving and a reenactment of the trauma that can result when someone makes the choice to take drugs or alcohol and get behind the wheel. Innocent people are killed. Friends and family will forever feel the pain of losing a loved one.
All delivered with a state-of the art sound system and big screens with a message your students won’t soon forget.
2. The key messages are -
- Peer pressure
- Dangers of binge drinking
- Realities about impairment caused by smoking marijuana
- Mixing marijuana and alcohol
- Accepting rides from alcohol or drug impaired drivers
3. We’re glad you asked! We show students the very real consequences of impaired driving. We bring the all Canadian show right to you and when we leave, we have resources to help you further the message. When you book MADD Canada’s multi-media presentation for your school, the education and awareness doesn’t end when the presentation does. It is our goal to bring awareness about the dangers of impaired driving to students year round. For this reason we have developed a comprehensive curriculum guide that can assist teachers to keep the education going throughout the school year, long before and after the presentation.
We also encourage you to get in contact with your local MADD chapter to discuss the possibility of working together to continue MADD Canada’s message in your school.
4. The high school presentation, Wasted is recommended for grade 7-12 students.
**Please note: Each student is different and you know your students best. Please discuss content with your coordinator when booking the show to ensure that the show is appropriate for your students especially if they are younger than the recommended grade.
5. This may be true but we know that students need to be educated at a very young age while they are still learning right from wrong.
If your students have not yet experimented with alcohol and/or drugs, chances are that in the future peer pressure will become a reality. When that moment comes, they need to be equipped with as much knowledge as possible so that they can make good decisions.
FACT: While the percentage of students binge drinking increases with each grade, the biggest single increase – from 8% to 24 % occurs between grade 8 and 9.
FACT: Road crashes are the number 1 cause of youth death in Canada.
6. Our coverage ranges from Whitehorse, Yukon to the most northern tip of Labrador. Chances are we will be coming to your area.
7. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule. However, due to an overwhelming response from schools, we are not always able to book your first choice. We will check the schedules for our 4 field representatives to find out when they will be in your area. It is best to contact your school outreach coordinator as soon as possible to inquire about date availability.
8. Yes! For the first time we are pleased to offer the Multi-Media Assembly Program in French. The 2009/2010 production is entitled Fini.
For schools that have hearing impaired students, we are able to provide a script ahead of time which outlines the content of the show.
9. Technical Requirements:
Our field representative will arrive with all the required equipment to put on your show (i.e. 3 large screens - full set up is 15 ft. high by 45 ft. wide, projectors, sound system, microphone, etc.). All that is required from you is 3 outlets and the space!
