How to Become a Local Community Leader and Chapter in Your Community

The purpose of a Community Leader or Chapter is to create organized action that promotes the mission of MADD Canada. There are a number of phases required. Each phase requires approval by MADD Canada's National Office before proceeding to the next phase. All Chapters will begin at the Community Leader level.

PHASE 1 APPLICATION
Before commencing the process, please check the chapter directory to be sure there is not a chapter already established in the area. You should also contact your Region’s Chapter Services Manager before Phase 1.

Complete and return an application with a summary of your experience and/or resume that cover your background. Once the application is approved, you will move to the next phase and receive the pertinent materials.

PHASE 2 UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUE OF IMPAIRED DRIVING
MADD Canada requires that the organizer(s) research and understand the problems and issues involved with impaired driving that exist nationwide, including federal and local jurisdictions. The research includes questions regarding impaired driving and general questions about MADD Canada as an organization. The purpose is to prepare and educate the organizer(s) so they can be knowledgeable spokespersons for MADD Canada. PHASE 3 BECOMING A MADD CANADA COMMUNITY LEADER(S)
After verification that the Review has been completed, the MADD Canada Community Leader(2) will complete a Community Leader Agreement between themselves and MADD Canada.

PHASE 4 APPROVAL BY THE NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Once the Community Leader Agreement has been authorized and signed by the National Office, the MADD Canada Community Leader is recommended to the National Board of Directors for approval.

PHASE 5 COMMUNITY INFORMATION
The media plays a major role in informing the community of the MADD Canada Community Leader(s). It is essential that the media is informed of MADD Canada’s presence in the community.

Opening a Chapter
After one year, the Community Leader can apply to become a Chapter. There are a number of requirements that need to be met before applying. For more information on this process, please contact your Chapter Services Manager.
