MONCTON, NB - Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Fair Haven Funeral Home are erecting a memorial wall for victims of impaired driving in our region.

The monument is still in the planning stages, but officials held a ground breaking ceremony at the Fair Haven Cemetary on the Salisbury Road yesterday.

Susan MacAskill of MADD Canada says far too many people are killed or injured on the province's highways.

She notes an average of 4 Canadians are killed as a result of impaired driving each day.

She says the memorial wall will serve as a reminder to all who visit fair haven gardens that impaired driving has had a tragic impact on far too many families in the Southeastern part of New Brunswick.

A joint planning committee for the memorial wall will begin early 2010.
