For some people, the reminder about the dangers of drinking and driving is the mental anguish and images of the lives of family members, friends or co-workers who have been killed or seriously injured by a drunk driver.
For most people, who are the lucky ones, the only reminder they might ever have about the consequences of impaired driving is a red ribbon on their vehicle.
The Halton Region chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is beginning its annual Project Red Ribbon campaign tomorrow (Saturday) at Burlington Mall.
MADD Halton has set aside 14 dates from now to Dec. 6 where volunteers will be at locations around the region to sell red ribbons in support of MADD’s awareness and victim support programs. The ribbons can be purchased for a donation of any amount to MADD.
Project Red Ribbon is designed to combat impaired driving during the holidays and will run until the first Monday after New Year’s Day. The red ribbon is a symbol of a person’s commitment to drive safe and sober during the holiday season and throughout the year.
MADD is asking Halton residents to tie a MADD Canada red ribbon to their car antenna, side mirror or other visible location on the vehicle and/or on their keychain.
