Plan your way home before raising St. Patrick’s Day pints
MADD Canada asks all St. Patrick’s Day revelers to make safe and responsible decisions if they are going to be drinking.
March 15, 2010 - As Canadians prepare for the “wearin’ o’ the green” in honour of St. Patrick’s Day, MADD Canada is asking everyone to leave the car at home if they are going to be raising a few green pints in celebration.
Every day in Canada, an average of 4 people are killed and 207 are injured as a result of impaired driving – deaths and injuries which are entirely preventable if everyone makes safe and responsible decisions.
“There are always options for getting home safely,” said MADD Canada National President Margaret Miller. “Arrange for a designated driver, take public transit, or call a cab. MADD Canada’s sponsor #TAXI offers a convenient service which will put callers in touch with the cab company of their choice, or the nearest available cab company, simply by dialing # 8-2-9-4 from any cell phone.”
#TAXI is the Title Sponsor of MADD Canada’s Campaign 911 program and is also a generous sponsor of the High School Multi-Media Assembly Program currently touring Canadian schools. Its fast and reliable service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the same price or less than calling 411.
“#TAXI is pleased to offer this service, and pleased to partner with MADD Canada, in our ongoing efforts to reduce the incidence of impaired driving,” said Michael Sachter, VP, Marketing, Cellwand Communications, the creator of #TAXI. “Getting behind the wheel when impaired does not just jeopardize the driver; it puts everyone around that driver at great risk. Each and every one of us can help improve safety on our roads by never getting behind the wheel impaired and by calling 911 to report a suspected impaired driver.”
MADD Canada’s Campaign 911 gives the public an opportunity to play a vital role in their own safety by alerting police to incidents of suspected impaired driving. Through signs, billboards, public service announcements and other materials, Campaign 911 provides the public with information on the possible signs of an impaired driver, tips on what to do and safety reminders. Campaign 911 programs are in place in communities throughout Canada.
