The fight against impaired driving has intensified in New Brunswick with the announcement of a new partnership between Rothesay Regional Police, Saint John Police Force, Alcool NB Liquor and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada).  On February 20, 2009, partnering representatives and special guests gathered at an event held in the Saint John area to promote Campaign 911 - a public awareness program led by MADD Canada that encourages and empowers the Canadian public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. Local MADD Chapter volunteers, most of whom have been personally impacted by impaired driving, participated in the event and handed out information about Campaign 911 at a roadside check stop.

Campaign 911 has gained momentum in recent years thanks to national police associations, provincial and local police forces, community leaders, MADD Canada volunteers, and program sponsors across the country.  We are proud to expand this list to include Alcool NB Liquor – which is not only funding the joint program in New Brunswick but has also made history as the first liquor corporation in Canada to partner with MADD Canada in support of Campaign 911

An effective 911 program increases arrest rates for impaired driving on average by 30%.  By calling 911 and reporting suspected impaired drivers to police, everyday citizens are doing their part to keep our roads safer. We urge Canadians to visit www.madd.ca and learn more about Campaign 911 – and remember that each emergency call could prevent a tragic impaired driving crash, injury or death.
