MADD Canada Releases

MADD DURHAM REGION CHAPTER JOINS WITH BUSINESS LEADERS TO ENCOURAGE RESIDENTS TO
 Support Project Red Ribbon

November, 4, 2008, Whitby, ON - Today marks the start of MADD Durham Region Chapter’s Project Red Ribbon campaign, designed to combat impaired driving during the holidays.

MADD Durham Region is officially kicking off the local campaign at 10 am at the old Fire Hall, 201 Brock Street South, Whitby, followed by two smaller ones in Uxbridge (12pm at the Williamson dealership)and Port Perry (2pm at Vos Independent) later on in the day.

Working with area businesses, the MADD Durham Region Chapter is asking residents of Durham Region to tie a MADD Canada ribbon to their antenna, side mirror, or other visible location on their vehicle and/or keychain. The MADD Canada ribbon is a symbol of a person’s commitment to drive safe and sober during the holiday season and throughout the year. The ribbon also serves as a reminder to other motorists to drive sober.

Every day, on average 4 Canadians are killed and 196 more Canadians are injured due to alcohol and drug-related crashes. MADD Canada works to change these numbers each and every day.

MADD Canada’s largest public awareness campaign is taking place across Canada now until the end of the first week of January.

MADD Canada ribbons are available at several local businesses or by contacting the MADD Durham Region office. If you’d like a box for your local business, please contact us (905-576-7473 or madddurham@interlinks.net) and we would be pleased to drop one off.
